Tag clouds, or folksonomies as they a properly called, are a very powerful tool for showing content that users didn't know they were looking for.

They generally provide a formatted list of words and phrases where the most 'important' ones are shown in a large font size, reducing to small sizes for less impoartent. There are many ways of writing the algorithm to determine what is important and what is not; most commonly this is done on the basis of quantity (how many items have this tag), frequency (number of hits on that item) etc.

Note that use of tools like this do not maintain the links - so if you change a page URL or update your site you must manually recreate the tag cloud.
