How do I use EPiTrace?
EPiTrace is our real time site monitoring tool, exclusive to our EPiServer powered NHS Core Site.

EPiTrace is a Flash application and is pretty simple really - each node (the little circles) represents a page on the site, with teh name shown in white. If it has a + sign then it has sub pages - double clicking ( or right click and choose the aso# command) reveals those in an arc around their parent page.
You can drag the zones around on the page to get the view you want. Dragging a parent moves all the child pages at the same time.

As people visit the site they get a little rotating ball, which flits around from page to page, showing you where they are; in real time (almost - it's about 60 seconds behind). Each ball is numbered, so you can track individuals, plus their IP address is shown in the top right (or their user name if they are logged in).

You can add sound to individual pages to be notified if someone lands on a page, by dragging from the tiny speaker icon on the right on to a page you want to monitor.

At the bottom right the 'speedo' meters give you a view on the current mean hits per hour and individual users hitting the site.

At the bottom right are a set of further buttons:
  • Highway shows the number of users following the most common paths through the site
  • Full screen does what it says on the tin
  • Screen saver moves the image around periodically to prevent burn in
  • High quality renders the diagram more smoothly (at the expense of a little more processor power)
  • Sound turns the audio alerts on and off
