Which MS Office Licences do you need?

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 is an integrated suite of server capabilities that can help improve organisational effectiveness by providing comprehensive content management and enterprise search, accelerating shared business processes, and facilitating information-sharing across boundaries for better business insight. Office SharePoint Server 2007 supports all intranet, extranet, and Web applications across an enterprise within one integrated platform, instead of relying on separate fragmented systems. Additionally, this collaboration and content management server provides IT professionals and developers with the platform and tools they need for server administration, application extensibility, and interoperability.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007,
Server License

The main server side license for the new Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS).
This integrated information management system provides enterprise-class capabilities to meet business-critical needs like managing content and business processes, enabling better-informed decisions, finding information and organizational expertise, and simplifying how people work together across boundaries.


This license is required to run Office SharePoint Server 2007 in client/server mode. You should use this license with the requisite number of Client Access Licenses (CALs) appropriate for your organizational needs.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Standard Edition
Client Access License (CAL),
This client access license allows you to access Office SharePoint Server.
As part of this license, you receive the core capabilities of Office SharePoint Server such as managing content and business processes, enabling better-informed decisions, finding information and organizational expertise, and simplifying how people work together across boundaries. There are some omissions and limitations, for which you need the Enterprise CAL below.
You can acquire these licenses through Open Licensing, Select Licensing, and Enterprise Agreements. This license is also part of the Core CAL suite and Enterprise CAL suite.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Enterprise Edition
Client Access License (CAL)

This CAL adds rights for you to use the Line of Business data integration (BDC); Search; Business Intelligence including performance management dashboard and web-based spreadsheets, and electronic forms (Forms Server).

This client access license is an additional license on top of the Office SharePoint Server CAL, Standard Edition, users need both the Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition CALs in order to use the Enterprise Edition functionality of MOSS.


You can acquire these licenses through Open Licensing, Select Licensing, and Enterprise Agreements. This license is also part of the Enterprise CAL suite.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Internet sites  - External Connector

You may use MOSS etc. for Internet-facing websites (or other online applications) using the External Connector license. It makes content, information and applications available to non-employees; employees must have CALs, even if they are accessing it externally.

This license has all the features of the Enterprise Edition of Office SharePoint Server.
This is a per server license that does not require the purchase of Client Access licenses for non-employees.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search - Standard Edition
Server License

A standalone license that provides the new Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search, without the other features of MOSS.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search is a security-enhanced, scalable, extensible, and manageable search solution, designed to meet the core search needs of enterprises where a full MOSS implementation is not needed. Search can index file shares, intranet content, email, websites and L.O.B. systems. Search can perform full text indexing of documents (including PDF's) and respects security, metadata etc.
Standard Edition is limited to indexing 500,000 documents.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search - Enterprise Edition
Server License
As Standard Edition, but with no document limit. You can acquire these licenses through Open Licensing, Select Licensing, and Enterprise Agreements.
 
 
 
Microsoft Forms Server 2007
Server License

Office Forms Server 2007 provides a powerful tool for publishing browser enabled electronic forms.
It is a scalable, security-enhanced, standards-based data-gathering solution that your organization can use to extend the reach of forms-driven business processes to anyone with a Web browser.

Office Forms Server works with the Microsoft Office InfoPath client for authoring your forms-driven solutions.

Microsoft Office Forms Server 2007
Client Access License (CAL)

This client access license is needed to allow staff to access your Office Forms Server 2007 via a browser.


You can acquire these licenses through Open Licensing, Select Licensing, and Enterprise Agreements. This license is also part of the Core CAL suite and Enterprise CAL suite.
Microsoft Forms Server 2007 for Internet sites - External Connector This allows you to makes Forms Server accessible for Internet-facing websites etc. It makes electronic forms available to non-employees; employees must have CALs, even if they are accessing it externally.

Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (bundled in the next version of Windows Server, code named "LongHorn") Component of Windows Server that is required for using Office SharePoint Server. Windows SharePoint Services is the underlying technology on which Office SharePoint Server builds. Microsoft SQL Server Office SharePoint Server 2007 uses a back-end database server: SQL Server 2000 SP4 or higher; or SQL Server 2005 SP1 or higher (32 and 64 bit processor).
